Raid EDHEC 2008

Published on June 5, 2008

The challenge of the 15th edition of the Raid has once again been taken up by EDHEC Business School in this cross country race that brings together professionals and students over 5 days of hiking, canyoning, rafting and kayaking.

The departure of Raid EDHEC 2008 edition took in place in Monaco's famous Larvotto Beach. The 44 student members of the association EDHEC Adventures, from the campus of Nice and Lille, launched the latest edition of the Raid EDHEC with more than 18 teams participating. 8 teams of students and 10 teams of students and professionals participated in the 5-day adventure in the Roya Valley in the backlands of Nice. Like previous years, the 72 competitors formed teams of 4 who combined 200km of hiking, climbing nearly up to 12000 metres, dividing the steps into biking, rafting, canyoning, sea kayaking and via ferrata.

The Principality of Monaco has welcomed the departure of the 15th Raid Edhec, with His Serene Highness, Prince Albert of Monaco sponsoring annual the event.

Raid Edhec 2008EDHEC Adventures is a student association that was created in 1994 and brings together each year an organising team of more than 40 motivated students, all of who share their passion for adventure. The N°1 event that this association organises one is without doubt the Raid EDHEC. The team is responsible for planning the competition, choosing the route (a closely guarded secret until the start of the competition) and taking care for all the logistics and administrative problems. EDHEC Adventures has become one of the most dynamic associations of EDHEC, while remaining financially and legally independent to the school through their company sponsorship.

Since its creation, the project has been supported by many people such as: Gerard Fusil (creator of the Raid Gauloises and organizer of the Elf Authentic Adventure and Raid Reunion), His Majesty Prince Albert of Monaco, Nathalie Lelièvre (7 times World Champion of funboard), Stephane Perrot (recordman of Europe's 100m breaststroke) and at the previous edition, Loic Leferme (world champion and world record holder in free diving).

Acting as a pioneer in the World of Raids, EDHEC Adventures has been innovative since its creation in organising the first Raid gathering students and companies together. In fact, the idea is to bring students and professionals together to share their passion around nature.

In addition to the Raid EDHEC, the association EDHEC Adventures is also present in the student life of the EDHEC Business School by helping on the organisation of the student integration, mountains trip, adventure sports (canyoning, rafting, via ferrata) during the year.

EDHEC Adventures is the first bi-campus association. This means that the association is represented in both Nice and Lille campus and work together in the organisation of events. This strategy allows the association to be well-known in France by developing a nation-wide communication to partners and sponsors and attract more and more participants each year. This commitment is part of the overall objective to develop the visibility of Raid EDHEC at the national and international level.

Domitille du Peloux, Vice President and Communication of EDHEC Adventure:

It has been a real challenge for us too to organize the 15th Raid EDHEC. It was a rich and intense experience, very time consuming but so interesting! As being a member of EDHEC Adventures means to me acquiring responsibilities, gaining management skills, becoming independent and making choices. I've learnt a lot from being in charge of the communication, as well as being vice president of the association.

In fact, the best part of the adventure is without any doubt the 5 days of the Raid, but as a member of the organization, it becomes an exhausting challenge to make everything looking perfect. And considering the pride and smiles of all the participants at the arrival, the challenges have been met!
