EDHEC Job Forum 2007

Published on January 18, 2007

The annual EDHEC Job Forum took place on the 12th of January in Paris. This is the flagship Forum of the EDHEC year underlining EDHEC's continuing commitment to maintaining and building closer ties with the wider business community in order to serve both the needs of prospective employers and EDHEC students seeking future employment opportunities.

A wide breadth of leading international companies were again represented this year at the forum with firms ranging from prominent FMCG companies such as Proctor and Gamble, prominent firms in the Financial Services Sector such BNP Paribas, leading consultancy firms such as KPMG to dominant well-established automobile firms such as BMW. In all 100 firms were present representing a true cross-section of all business sectors.

The Forum serves as a unique platform for future employers to become acquainted with young talent from EDHEC. Students were able to approach company representatives at each of the stands and provide them with copies of their CV's and ask pertinent questions concerning each of the companies which interested them. This close personal contact allowed students to gain invaluable insight into the company's working and future prospective employment opportunities. In many cases short interviews were conducted by company representatives and students had the opportunity to fill in spot questionnaires enquiring into their motivations for wanting to join particular companies. This considerably facilititated the candidacy process for the students as they were able to really put across their own merits and abilities, thus providing them with a considerable head-start in terms of eventual employment. Many of the students seemed very satisfied with the information that they received and stated it would be a great help giving their future careers the right direction.

The presence of online recruitment firms such as Hobsons further emphasised the commitment EDHEC to provide students with increased ease of access to employment opportunities.

Although this is but one event in the calendar for the company representatives, those present often made comments on the high quality of the EDHEC students and the level of interest that was demonstrated by them.

The Job Forum also continues to cater for and orientate itself towards the international student. Representatives at the Renault, Deloitte, and Proctor and Gamble stands to name but a few were more than prepared to answer questions posed to them in English and accept CV's composed in English. Jinendra Kahra an Indian MSc student, was particularly impressed by the level of interest shown in him by  a number of firms. He was able to conduct interviews at the Renault and Deloitte stands in English and has already received feedback concerning his applications. The interest in the international student appears to be an increasingly important aspect of recruitment at the EDHEC job forum.

Nicolas Fayon, an MSc student who was employed as a student ambassador at the Proctor and Gamble stand, stated that he was able to get considerable information concerning the different stages that he would have to go through in order to achieve the position he was aiming for. He also said that the level of interest shown by the company representatives towards him and his counterparts was particularly edifying.

All-in-all around 80 percent of MSc students from the Nice campus participated in the EDHEC Job Forum and it has proven itself a considerable stepping stone for Nice, as an increased amount of companies have now shown an increased level of interest in participating in the Nice Job Fair for the coming years.

This job forum follows on from December's International Job Fair on the Nice campus which attracted over 160 participants with the same motivation - a strong desire to follow an international career and find out more about international job prospects. This fair was a privileged opportunity for MBA and MSc Students to meet recruiters from a variety of industry sectors including IT, Consumer Goods, Banking, Services and Retail and was above all a networking event where students were able to make a personal contact with recruiters.
