The Pitchoun, one of EDHEC's most popular student associations has been providing the Riviera inhabitants with what many consider the best guide to the Cote d'Azur for the past 14 years. The members of the association are all volunteers who work hard to create a practical tool for both the local population and visitors of the region.
Throughout the year the students of the Pitchoun visit and judge public establishments that are potential candidates for the next edition. These under-cover detectives evaluate restaurants, shops, bars and commercial centres in Nice and nearby cities, such as Monaco, Cannes and Antibes, their goal being to find the best addresses on the Cote d' Azur
The Pitchoun contains everything there is to know about Nice and its environs, from the best value for money restaurants to the trendiest nightclubs. Moreover the Pitchoun gives practical information about transport, housing, health, administration, employment, student activities and the media.
The 2006 edition of Pitchoun with more than 250 pages, was printed in 125.000 copies. The activities are managed in the same way as a company with directors responsible for promotion, budget and logistics etc. The Pitchoun has a President, Treasurer and Secretary and students working in Administration and Research. In this way the students acquire managerial experience and have the opportunity to put theory into practice. In total each year there are about 60 students working for the edition.
The guide is distributed in tourist offices, in EDHEC, in commercial centres, cinemas, shops and on the famous Prommenade de des Anglais. Since the copies are free, the association has to work hard each year selling advertising space to finance the project that has a budget of around €150.000 . Major sources of finance are the city of Nice and the region, the establishments listed in the guide and other advertisers.
Florent Rousseau an MSc Strategic Management student in charge of the Eating Out section of the Pitchoun believes that the association is important not only for the students involved but also forthe general public. Firstly because working for the Pitchoun is a real job experience and secondly because the Pitchoun is esteemed and awaited throughout the region.
Next year's copy will be important for the Pitchoun as it will celebrate its 15 anniversary. The students of the association always try to present something new and this time they are thinking about publishing the guide not only in French but also in English. This has become a necessity since each year Nice hosts hundreds of thousands of tourists and also since each year the EDHEC Nice campus becomes more and more international.
The editorial team invites all new students to join the association and live the Pitchoun experience.
